The story
Bigeh is an island and archaeological site on the Nile in historic Nubia, within Aswan Governorate in southern Egypt. The island has lain in the reservoir of the Old Aswan Dam since the dam was first completed in 1902. In ancient Egyptian belief it was linked to the god Osiris: it housed an abaton, regarded as one of his purported tombs, while the temple of Isis stood on neighbouring Philae.
