The story

Known historically as the Spring of the Sun described by Herodotus in the 5th century BC. This stone-lined circular spring pool is fed by artesian bubbling waters maintaining a constant balmy temperature year-round. Legend holds that Queen Cleopatra bathed here during her desert voyage, now surrounded by charming palm-frond cafes.

Visiting tips

Swimming here after floating in the salt lakes washes away mineral crusts. Nearby rustic cafes serve freshly squeezed fruit juices and Siwan herbal tea.
