El Quseir Ottoman Fort

A 16th-century Ottoman fortress guarding Egypt’s oldest historical Red Sea port, the gateway for Hajj pilgrim caravans and spices from India.
The story
Built in the 16th century by Ottoman Sultan Selim I to safeguard Egypt’s coast and secure maritime routes to Mecca and Medina. Later reinforced by Napoleon’s French expedition with defensive bastions and cannons. The restored fort now houses a museum chronicling regional trade, pharaonic expeditions to Punt, and maritime heritage.
