The story
The tower stands in the Central Business District of the New Administrative Capital, roughly 45 to 50 kilometres east of central Cairo. It was designed by Dar Al-Handasah in collaboration with Perkins&Will and is being built by China State Construction Engineering Corporation. Work on site began in 2018, and a topping-out ceremony for the structure was held in 2021. It combines offices, a hotel and business facilities, and rises above 380 metres, though published figures differ slightly by source. Its crown draws on the lotus bud, an ancient Egyptian symbol of renewal. Project officials and the designers describe it as the tallest building in Africa.
