The story
Naama Bay is a natural bay within Sharm El Sheikh, on the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula. Sharm began as a fishing town and military post, and state-backed development later turned it into an international resort city. Today the bay is the busiest visitor centre of the city, gathering hotels, restaurants, cafes, bazaars and dive centres. Many travellers use it as a base for diving and snorkelling trips to Red Sea reefs, including Ras Mohammed and the Tiran area.
Good to know
- Naama Bay is regarded as the main tourist hub of Sharm El Sheikh, known for its cafes, restaurants, hotels and bazaars.
- A seafront promenade lined with cafes, restaurants and shops runs along the bay and is usually at its liveliest in the evening.
- Dive centres and boat operators based here run daily trips to reef sites such as Ras Mohammed and Tiran.
- The bay sits between Sharm El Sheikh airport and the old town, a short drive from each.
Visiting tips
Most beaches along the bay belong to hotels, so ask about access before you go. The area is busy and lively, especially after dark, and some vendors can be persistent; a polite no is enough. Please check dive and boat-trip schedules and prices with the operator before booking.
