The story
The mosque stands on Portsaid Street in the Sayyidah Zainab district of Islamic Cairo and counts among the most important mosques in the city. It is centred on a shrine said to hold the tomb of Zaynab bint Ali, a granddaughter of the Prophet Muhammad; her burial place is disputed, as a shrine in Damascus is also attributed to her.
